This week’s guest speaker is Sidney Chahonyo the Board Chairperson of Hope for Cancer Kids (HCK), an initiative that raises funds to assist children from disadvantaged backgrounds who suffer from cancer.
Sidney’s work in cancer advocacy is inspired by his own experience. At 19 years old, he was diagnosed with Post-Nasal Space cancer, a rare type of cancer that affects the nasal cavity and sinuses. His successful battle with cancer inspired him to make a significant contribution toward creating awareness of critical cancer interventions such as timely diagnosis, quality treatment and follow-up.
Sidney’s work in cancer advocacy has seen him serve in various capacities including as a Member of the African Regional Committee for Childhood Cancer International (CCI). He is also part of the Technical Working Group (TWG) for Childhood Cancer and a member of the TWG for Prevention, Early Detection & Cancer Screening, all under the Ministry of health through the National Cancer Control Program. He is also a member of the sub-committee on childhood cancer and survivorship.
Join us this Thursday as we discuss the plight of children battling cancer and what we can do to help.
