In the life of a Rotaractor, Saturday can be a day to impact someone’s life. Saturday 20th February 2021 was a day like no exception! We got an opportunity to visit and deliver up to 1500 donated academic and leisure books to Christian Best Camps of Kenya (CBCK). An avid reader knows the joy of getting a new book and we bet the kids at CBCK do too after the launching of their stocked library by Rotaract club of Technical University of Kenya who liaised with Rotaract Club of Lang’ata to make the day a success.
In addition to having a beautiful centre located in Mugumo-ini area in Kibera, the members have such fantastic souls. The day was fabulous, filled with some mentorship session for the kids in attendance, several jokes for the director, Mr. Simba and mind engaging activities to test the awareness of our own brains.
The people there are so full of life and energy, they engaged us in a Zumba and dance sessions. An opportunity for some of the Rotaractors to stretch their bones and sweat a little. We were challenged to a basketball game that sincerely left most of the Rotaractors breathless, and not in a romantic way. They did win the game but be advised that they had a home court advantage. Well, that and maybe the fact that they are probably 10 times fitter than us. Regardless, we were just glad to land that certificate of participation.
All in all, we were and still are glad of what we were able to accomplish at C.B.C.K, in collaboration with Rotaract TUK and many other well-wishers who joined the book drive. We send a special thank you to everyone who was involved in the cause as a whole and hope we get to do similar projects together again in the near future. WAZZZUR!
