Oloomayiana Community Project
Oloomayiana is in Iyarat sublocation of Kajiado County. According to the last census report the population for community members residing Iyarat sublocation 15,000 people with a population of approximately 5,000 people within Oloomayiana area. The area is around 130km from Nairobi and is inhabited by the pastoralist Maasai community.
The Rotary Club of Nairobi-Lang’ata embarked on a 2-year project to transform the lives of the people of Olomayiana. The transformation would happen in two phases.
Phase 1
Commissioned in October 2020, comprised:
- Supply of clean and purified water,
- Improved access to medical care,
- Handwashing facilities and PPEs,
- Nursery school furniture, books, toys, and
- Sanitary towels for the girls.
Phase 2
The Kenya Defence Forces, Vitol Foundation, Rotary Clubs of Braemar and Hong Kong North Point contributed to:
- Construction of a borehole
- Installed 20,000lt water tanks
- Installed a solar-powered water pumping system that will supply water to over 12,000 people
- Installed a smart water dispensing system via a water kiosk
