My Journey as an Athlete

Back in the day, watching Bert Cameron sprint at breakneck speeds was electrifying!
This Thursday 14th January 2021, the Rotary Club of Nairobi – Lang’ata is elated to host the Jamaican legend to share his journey as an athlete.
Bert is a retired Jamaican sprinter who won the 400m title in the first World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983. He represented Jamaica at three consecutive editions of the Summer Olympics and has won gold medals in other regional athletic competitions.
He was the Jamaica sportsperson of the year over three consecutive years from 1981 to 1983 and carried the Jamaican flag at the opening ceremony of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, California. He helped the Jamaican runners to a silver medal in Seoul, S. Korea in 1988 and is currently a coach in Jamaica as he continues to give back to the society.
