Supporting The Environment: RCL Rooted In Tree Planting

While it has been customary to plant trees in every project, the Rotary Club of Nairobi- Lang’ata gave
the earth a fresh feeling, pulling partners and resources to achieve the 7 th area of Rotary Focus-
Supporting the Environment. The highlight was the major tree planting evet at Oloolua forest on 26 th
June 2021.
Through the support of BAYER East Africa, Absa Bank Limited, Kuramo Capital, Kenya Forestry Services,
Oloolua Community Forest Association, we planted a record 1600 trees in 6 sites that didn’t have tree
cover prior. We also constructed a drop toilet at the Camp Jonah picnic site for the comfort of nature
lovers. To ensure the trees thrive, the Club encouraged the Community to care for and nurture the trees
for 6 months. To heal the environment, an additional 740 trees were planted as part of other projects
initiatives, even as we commit to offer 1500 trees to our Rotarians to plant in the next few months.
While thanking RCL for the support, the Chairman of the Oloolua Community Forest Association Mr.
Christopher Muriithi, urged the public to make tree planting a commemorative exercise.
“Whether on your birthday or during the wedding, or even your anniversary, let us make tree planting a
part of our everyday lives. We are now in the process of fencing the Oloolua Forest to enhance its
conservation. We look forward to the restoration of wildlife in this area as we increase the forest cover,”
said Mr. Muriithi
